Happy New Year! While a lot of people are reflecting back on the previous year, the BECA team is looking forward to the new year and the upcoming technologies that we are so excited about. Read on to learn what our senior management team is most looking forward to in 2016.

Mike Estep | President: 2016! The biggest concern is cyber security. The movement of so much data via internet connections is leading to a new battlefront for security. Many companies are about to be challenged with compliance and regulations because of the security of their data, either on premise or cloud won’t really matter.  The data is available because it is connected to very fast connections that connect to everyone in the world. BECA is focused on improving our capabilities in this area. We believe with our Outcomes that Matter business partner, WatchGuard, we are well positioned to protect the internet connection at the business and, more importantly, begin a new installation area at the home. As executives and business teams work remotely, the high speed internet connection at the home will become a new battle ground for protection as well.

The biggest excitement is of course the Internet of Things (IoT). This new “everything” connected world is very exciting and will lead to new and creative businesses.  We actually have a client that is working on a water shutoff valve that uses an app to open and close.  The ability to not only accomplish new tasks but more importantly track the data needed to improve business process is very exciting!

Branden Smith | Vice President: Even though it doesn’t directly involve our day-to-day business, I’m really “geeked out” over the Internet of Things!  I’m already turning my 50-year-old house into a smart home… and can’t wait until my refrigerator emails my grocery list to me (ok that one may be a few years off).  My watch reminds me to get up and move if I’ve sat for too long.  It also counts steps, sends my text/email, and even tells the time! The IoT (industry abbreviation for internet of things) promises to help us track our health, more efficiently manage our homes, and may even wind up in the clothes we wear.  While there is a lot of hype surrounding it, I believe that there will be many useful technologies to come out of the industries “lets stick sensors on everything” approach.  Now for the word of caution: security will be a major concern in this “everything connected” world we are headed for.  The firewalls that are currently protecting your businesses will need to find their way into your homes.  The good news on that front is that companies like WatchGuard are already building firewalls with your home in mind.  I have to go now, my watch just told me I’ve been sitting too long!  Happy New Year everyone!

Sean Barron | Chief Technology Architect: The biggest thing in technology I am looking forward to in 2016 is for BECA to continue to grow and have more opportunities to help companies use technology to succeed in their business.

I am also looking forward to seeing Microsoft continue to grow its Cloud Services business and add more feature and functionality to Office 365, Azure, and specifically Azure Active Directory.  I want to see Microsoft make the OneDrive for Business client for Office 365 better to make it easier for customers that want to go completely to the cloud.

I am curious to see how things evolve in the IOT (Internet of Things) world.  Initially, everyone will be scrambling to make everything connected to the Internet (I have seen Internet connected forks of all things), but as we go along we will discover IOT devices that are truly useful and beneficial to our lives.  This will be a technology area to keep an eye on in the coming year.

Robert Rivers | Business Development Director: In 2016, I am looking forward to businesses continuing to implement solutions that allow their mobile workers to be as productive, or even more productive, than if they were in the office. Customers are expecting businesses to provide information, services or contracts to them quickly. Having an employee that can achieve this goal/expectation is becoming “Value” in the eyes of consumers. That is where having the right technology at your employees’ fingertips come into play. There are new solutions that allow for that to be the new standard. The new solution is only one part. The other part is having the hardware and backbone to support the new solution and allowing your employees to maximize efforts with technology!

At BECA, we focus on helping our customers succeed. Please contact us if you would like for us to review and recommend technologies that will allow you to prosper in 2016.
